Over 30 Mercy & McQuaid Freshmen along, with some parents, brought donations of hygiene kits, hats, gloves, clothes and drinks to the House of Mercy team, caring for the community’s homeless.
House of Mercy staff members; Sister Rita (Sister of Mercy), Hubert (previously homeless, now a House of Mercy volunteer worker), and Kelly Finnigan (Social Worker and McQuaid Alum) shared much of their knowledge of the homeless situation in Rochester. Then the M&M Service volunteers managed the House of Mercy’s letter/envelope mailing of their Thank You letters from numerous donors, sorted and organized files, clothes and prepped food for the homeless after Mass meal.
Hubert expressed gratitude for the donations brought by the students and said, “We LOVE that we have it. We HATE that we need it.”
A special thank you to House of Mercy’s, Sr. Grace, Sr. Rita and Kelly Finnigan for supporting the most vulnerable in our community! Students and parents are encouraged to come back and offer their help for the homeless. The shelter serves up to 450 meals per day and provides beds for more than 100 people at night. Thank you to all who participated!
